Job Description

At Hornbill, we’re reinventing learning for our Enterprise Service Management customers and partners. With our new Hornbill Academy and Documentation platform, we are building the foundations to deliver skills and knowledge to new and existing audiences. We are looking for a Senior Instructional Designer who can bring their experience to help us deliver technical learning solutions and help lead on curriculum and certification initiatives. 

As a Senior Instructional Designer with a strong technical background, you’ll be adept at designing and creating technical and conceptual learning content that engages learners and helps them achieve their goals. You’ll work closely with the Head of Product – E-learning to help translate the company’s vision into high-quality learning experiences against curriculum specifications. You’ll be well versed in gathering diverse materials from a variety of sources and distilling them into structured learning resources. You will advocate for the learner by promoting innovative learning design that is not limited by a specific tool or approach.  

The successful candidate will be curious, analytical, innovative, and autonomous with confidence in working through ambiguity, the ability to manage stakeholders and drive projects to completion, attention to detail to deliver high-quality content, and experience in pedagogy/curriculum design for technical training. 

What you get to do in this role: 

  • End-to-end production of high-quality learning materials, curricula, and certification through conducting learning analysis, writing design documents, and storyboard and scripts. 
  • Create learning content in a variety of formats, including video, interactive lessons, walk-throughs, job-aids. 
  • Work independently to manage projects and programs and striving to gain stakeholder alignment to deliver high-quality accurate materials.
  • Work to instructional design guidelines, standards, and templates. 
  • Collaborate with a range of SMEs to gather source content and conduct review sessions from across the business. 
  • Design and produce course assessments that help ensure learning objectives can be measured. 
  • Contribute to maintain learning content, ensuring content is kept up to date. 
  • Review and improve, with guidance, the effectiveness of learning content.  

 

Qualifications  

To be successful in this role you'll have: 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years as an instructional designer or similar roles (e.g. technical trainer, LXD). 
  • Experience producing learning content for technical audiences. 
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in working with common video and elearning productions tools. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Technical education, such as a degree in computer science or similar field. 
  • Experience delivering technical training, preferably accredited.
  • Understanding of enterprise SaaS platforms and Service Management. 
  • The ability to work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather knowledge and distil it into solutions that help learners meet learning outcomes
  • Experience of building curriculums and/or certifications for technical audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, contemporary instructional design models, and evaluation models. 
  • Staging and administering content in a learning management system (LMS).
