Asset Types

James Ainsworth -

An Asset Type is a configurable asset definition that allows you to select the information that you would like to store and make available to any asset that is associated to that particular Asset Type.

Each Asset Type is based on a selectable template, or Asset Class, which contains a number of predefined fields.  When defining an Asset Type you can simply click on any of these fields to make them available for use on any associated asset.  This give you the control over the level of information you would like to have stored against any asset.

Within the Asset Types you can enable general information such as ownership, location, or financial tracking which can be more generic to all assets. You can then select from class specific information, for example an Asset Type based on the computer class will have information such as CPU, memory, IP address, whereas an Asset Type based on the printer class will have information such as the number of trays or paper size.

This gives you an easy and flexible way of making sure that just the right amount of information is available on all of your assets.
